Secondly, Jen and I had planned months in advance, I think before I even said I was going to finish my degree, an international trip to Paris and London for our fifth wedding anniversary with tickets she won in a trivia contest (because she’s easily more resourceful than I will ever be in these regards, even with all the random bullshit I’ve filled my head with in my lifetime). We were gone for nine days and it was fucking amazing. I’m going to do a separate write-up of those travels for next week’s post, because man. So much to tell there.
Third, the holidays. For some people, the holidays are merely things that happen two or three days out of the year and then they’re done. For us, not so much. Both Jacob and I are in IT, and while there are year-end freezes that occur across a lot of enterprise environments, the normal workload can go one of two ways: dead as a doornail or busy as FUCK. It’s been the latter for both of us. Meanwhile Chris is in the throes of football season, killing it at Everbank Field, and his wife Tabbi has been in that retail end-of-year craziness that comes with extended shifts and customers galore. With two little kidlets for them to take care of, it leaves absolutely zero gaps in the schedule. To say that planning our recording sessions has been troublesome is an understatement: it’s been downright fucking impossible this year.
Also, speaking of kidlets, another thing happened: JEN AND I ARE EXPECTING OUR FIRST CHILD! I seriously could not be more excited about it. We’ve confirmed with docs that everything is going smoothly and in just about four weeks we get to know what the gender is. We’re both hoping for a girl, because I was an absolutely shitty little pyromaniac growing up and my hope is that the lack of a Y chromosome means I don’t have to buy additional fire extinguishers. In any case, while Jen and I are incredibly happy about it, preparing for this monumental life change has most definitely taken time from our schedules that would otherwise be set aside for content generation. As if the holidays weren’t busy enough!
I go into 2016 with the normal slate of resolutions: learn more, weigh less, diet, etc. and I definitely plan on sticking to those, as last year I made great progress (I dropped from Large to Medium shirt sizes and I’m never fucking going back, not ever). But more than that, I want to get better at running these sites and providing you guys, our loyal fans and listeners, more content than ever. Part of that is me accepting what’s possible given the parameters and not getting stressed out about it. Can’t record a podcast this week? No big. YouTube video it is. The blog is getting updated at least weekly. No exceptions. I have a goddamn English degree. Writing should not be an issue. We’re FINALLY going to start the, “Hey, Ahnold! Podcast”, which I think is going to be one of the best shows we’ve ever provided and I absolutely know you guys are going to love it. Jen’s fantastic on the mic and even better at snarky commentary, and any Arnold fan knows that the catalog is rife for it. I’m going to shoot for daily content uploads on the YouTube channel, whether it’s gameplay, talking head, or otherwise. Getting the rest of the roster involved is also on the docket. I absolutely would love to have some Degen video content and I’m sure you guys would enjoy that too!
2016 proves to be a very exciting year for our little network. Hopefully the biggest one yet. The outpouring of support and congratulations for having been in circulation for a year back in October was so incredibly heartwarming, and it’s my promise to you guys that we won’t let you down. Until next week, hope you all had a wonderful holiday season, have a Happy New Year, and we’ll see you guys in 2016! Keep hope alive, kids!

]]>Has this ever happened to you, LoB faithful? Have you ever had to force yourself to do something you know you love doing? I feel like I had to take more time coming to grips with the concept of it than actually implementing is as a solution. Why should I have to force myself? Why am I not excited about doing something? Why am I not excited about ANYTHING? For me, it was play a video game. Simple. Stupid. Something literally 80% of my friend group does every single day and something I’ve done for twenty-seven of my thirty years on this earth. The difference being, thanks to this unshakeable funk, I don’t think I’ve actually sat down and played a video game in weeks. I played a little bit of the last Iron Banner on Destiny, maybe about an hour or so, but barely made it over Rank 1 and then just stopped. I never finished Skolas for the Moments of Triumph and couldn’t be arsed. Year 2 patch dropped to a resounding one hand clapping from me. That isn’t to say that they didn’t bring extremely positive and sweeping changes to the game that are worth being excited about (in fact, once I sit down with it, it’s getting a full write-up)! I just can’t bring myself to let out anything more than, “K” in response to it all. Well, no fucking more!
It’s at this point where I found myself in a world of options I’d forgotten I even had. Good options, too! First up: a completely sealed copy of Batman: Arkham Knight that I bought after we recorded episode 30 in fucking JULY and still haven’t opened yet.
What the hell is wrong with me? Game receives rave reviews, literally everyone I know who has played it tells me I need to, and what do I do? Keep it in the goddamn plastic wrap. You’d have thought with that in mind that the choice would have been clear and that sucker would have been popped into my PS4 without a second thought. I’d be soaring over Gotham and curing the Batmobile’s controls just like the rest of my friends were back in early July. You’d think that, but you’d be wrong. It went back on the shelf.
Second on the list: Witcher 3! If, “everyone” were the unit of measure for people who told me to play Batman, “everyone and their fucking mother” would be the unit of measure for the amount of people who told me to play Witcher 3. I even pre-ordered it from Best Buy for the snazzy case!
Countless, literally COUNTLESS hours of amazing gameplay awaited me and my mind reeled at the idea of continuing a story that I absolutely loved so many years ago in Witcher 2. A game that received damn-near perfect scores and a game I went out of my way to pay for before it dropped. Even more of a no-brainer than Batman, right? I’d have to be a balls-out imbecile not to have played this yesterday. Well, this balls-out imbecile put it right back on the shelf with Batman. What. The. FUCK.
Finally, I arrived at a game that I hadn’t played, but at the same time I had dumped countless hours in: Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel. A game that received mediocre reviews upon its initial release due to a lack of varied content and gameplay from its predecessors. “More of the same” was a prevalent theme in the reviews, as well as the general consensus. It should have gone back on the shelf. I should have been Witchering or Batmaning or other made up verbs to describe the act of experiencing anything other than Borderlands, but instead I found myself controlling a Claptrap while I played in the same house with a fresh coat of paint. And I loved every second of it.
It was exactly what I needed. I needed something familiar. Something comfortable. As much as I love having the experience of a new game or a new story, Borderlands was exactly what I needed to pull myself out of my rut. It provided the safety of a similar experience that I knew I would absolutely love while still giving me a great jumping-off point for getting back to my old self again. Don’t get me wrong: I AM going to play Batman and Witcher. As soon as I finish being a FR4G-TP robot.
How about you kids? You ever get a similar feeling? Let me know in the comments section and/or the Facebook page! Until next time, #keephopealive!

]]>So, I wanted to write a few things down since it’s been a few weeks since we’ve gotten to record. I believe this is called “blogging.” Never heard of it. Adulting is for the birds, especially when it comes to podcast scheduling. Speaking of birds……
I watched Jurassic World (as did most everyone on the planet) and I was actualy pleasantly surprised. Significantly better than I expected, considering I had more interest in watching water boil than seeing that film. Chris Pratt was a paint by numbers action guy, but decent enough. Bryce Dallas Howard was your typical career obsessed damsel in distress. The two kids were you’re typical kids who’s parents should be getting divorced. Visual effects were good. The military sub-plot was pretty thin. Oh well. It’s making a gazillion dollars and I’m sure they’ll do another one.
I also watched Terminator: Genisys. Pretty much made no sense, but it was also better than I expected, considering I’d rather watch Jurassic World than see that film. If you don’t care at all about T1 or T2, or if you are just in for turning your chip off and watching a fun action flick, this might work for you. Arnie vs Arnie was fun to see. Khalessi was fair enough (no dragons though) and that dude from the last Die Hard flick… I’m not even gonna finish typing that.
That’s about it for now kids. I’m gonna go back to re-watching Parks and Rec for the 5th time. Make sure you submit your responses to Franko’s Question of the Week to mike@landofbunnies.com. Feel free to comment on this post and share your thoughts as well. This new “blogging” thing might be something we all three keep doing in the future, if you’re all hungry for it. Hooray for gay marriage! Talk to you all soon. #keephopealive
